Bologna

Bologna is the capital and largest city of Emilia-Romagna, the seventh most populous in Italy with 390,734 inhabitants drawn from 150 nationalities, and more than a million across its metropolitan province. It is best known as home to the oldest university in continuous operation, founded in 1088. Its porticoes, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2021, cover its streets, which means it is the one Italian city where rain does not change the plan, and it has a stronger claim than most to being the country’s kitchen.
