Badlands National Park

Sharply eroded buttes and pinnacles across 242,756 acres, together with the largest undisturbed mixed grass prairie in the United States. The South Unit, the Stronghold District, is co-managed with the Oglala Lakota and holds sites of the 1890s Ghost Dances, a former Air Force bomb and gunnery range, and Red Shirt Table, the park’s high point at 3,340 feet. The Badlands Wilderness protects 64,144 acres of the North Unit, and is one of the places where the black-footed ferret, among the most endangered mammals in the world, was returned to the wild.
