Ale’s Stones

Ale’s Stones is a megalithic monument in Scania, a stone ship laid out in an oval with markedly larger stones at each end. It runs 67 metres long and is formed from 59 boulders weighing up to five tonnes each. Radiocarbon dating of organic remains at the site has produced seven results. Six point to about 1,400 years ago; the seventh, roughly 5,500 years old, came from soot-covered stones thought to be an older hearth beside the setting. The Swedish National Heritage Board settled on 1,400 BP.
