Abruzzo National Park

The Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park was established in 1923, making it one of the oldest in Italy, with most of its 496.80 square kilometres in Abruzzo and smaller parts reaching into Lazio and Molise. It was formerly known simply as Abruzzo National Park, and its headquarters are at Pescasseroli in the Province of L’Aquila. Beech forest covers most of it, and it holds the Marsican brown bear, the Apennine wolf and the Abruzzo chamois, species that exist here and nearly nowhere else.
