Gran Sasso d’Italia

Gran Sasso d’Italia, the Great Rock of Italy, is a massif in the Apennines whose highest peak, Corno Grande at 2,912 metres, is the highest mountain in the Apennines and the second highest in Italy outside the Alps. It lies within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. The Campo Imperatore plateau below the summit is high, treeless and enormous, and the walking here feels nothing like the rest of the peninsula.
