Langhe

The Langhe are a hilly area south and east of the river Tanaro, in the provinces of Cuneo and Asti in Piedmont. They are famous for wine, cheese and truffles, and above all for the white truffles of Alba. The countryside as it was in the first half of the twentieth century is preserved in the writing that came out of it. This is slow country: villages on ridge tops, vineyards on the slopes between, and an autumn season built around the truffle fairs and the harvest rather than around the view.
