Zugspitze

The Zugspitze is the highest mountain in Germany at 2,962 metres, the top of the Wetterstein range, south of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria. The Austria–Germany border runs across its western summit. South of the peak lies the Zugspitzplatt, a high karst plateau riddled with caves, and two glaciers survive on the flanks. Cable cars and a rack railway reach the top from both countries, which means the summit can be stood on without a climb, though the weather up there is genuinely alpine whatever the season below.
