About Peñafiel
Peñafiel is a town in the province of Valladolid, best known for Peñafiel Castle and for the Plaza del Coso, a medieval square still used for bullfights. The castle, more than 200 metres long, now houses the Wine Museum of Valladolid. Below it the hill is full of caves dug to store wine at a constant temperature all year, and their chimney vents dot the landscape around the town. Peñafiel lies in Ribera del Duero, one of the regions along the Duero river, and some of the most famous vineyards of the denominación surround it. The DO was founded on 21 July 1982.
