Hāna Highway

A 64.4-mile stretch of Hawaii Routes 36 and 360 connecting Kahului to the town of Hana in east Maui, colloquially the Road to Hana. Hana lies only about 52 miles from Kahului, but an uninterrupted drive takes around two and a half hours: the road is very winding and narrow, crosses 59 bridges of which 46 are a single lane wide, and turns through roughly 620 curves, almost all of it running through lush tropical rainforest. Many of the concrete and steel bridges date back to 1910 and all but one remain in use. In August 2000 the highway was given a formal designation.
