Theodore Roosevelt National Park

The only American national park named after a single person, in the badlands of western North Dakota, honouring the time Roosevelt spent here in the Dakota Territories. He came after his mother and his wife died hours apart on 14 February 1884. The park covers 70,446 acres in three separate sections: the South Unit beside Interstate 94 near Medora, the North Unit some eighty miles away on US Route 85, and the Elkhorn Ranch between them. The Little Missouri runs through all three, which the Maah Daah Hey Trail connects.
