Texas Hill Country

The southeast part of the Edwards Plateau, and by climate, terrain and vegetation one of the borders between the American South and the Southwest. The country is karst, with rugged hills of limestone or granite rising 400 to 500 feet above the plains and valleys. Packsaddle Mountain reaches 800 feet above the Llano River. It takes in the Llano Uplift and Enchanted Rock, the second-largest granite dome in the United States. A thin layer of topsoil over exposed rock and boulders makes the whole region dry.
