Guadalupe Mountains National Park

A park of 86,367 acres east of El Paso holding Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas at 8,751 feet, and El Capitan, which travellers used as a landmark on the route the Butterfield Overland Mail later followed, the ruins of a stagecoach station still stand near the Pine Springs visitor centre. The Guadalupe Peak Trail climbs over 3,000 feet through pinyon pine and Douglas-fir to the summit. The same range continues north into New Mexico as Carlsbad Caverns, about twenty-five miles away.
