Newport

A seaside city on Aquidneck Island in Narragansett Bay, known as a New England summer resort and famous for its historic mansions and its sailing. It was a major eighteenth-century port and keeps a great many buildings from the colonial era. It hosted the first US Open in both tennis and golf, and every challenge for the America’s Cup between 1930 and 1983. Naval Station Newport is here too, housing the Naval War College and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center.
