Schloss Eggenberg

The most significant Baroque palace complex in Styria, at 381 metres on the western edge of Graz, built for the House of Eggenberg, once the mightiest dynasty in the province. Its preserved fittings, its scenic gardens and the Universalmuseum Joanneum collections housed in it make it one of the most valuable cultural holdings in Austria. UNESCO extended the listing of the Graz historic old town to take it in during 2010. The northern corner of the grounds holds the Planetary Garden and a Lapidarium of Roman stonework.
