About Scansano
Scansano is a town of medieval origin in the province of Grosseto, in the part of coastal Tuscany called the Maremma. The hills around it make Morellino di Scansano, a red wine of at least 85% Sangiovese, the grape Morellino is the local name for. It was granted DOC status in 1978 and raised to DOCG from the 2007 vintage. It does not need to age in wood, so a fresh, crisp bottle can reach the shelf the March after the harvest, while the Riserva spends at least a year in wood. Drink it young, where it is made.
