About Olite
Olite, Erriberri in Basque, is a town in Navarre known above all for the Palace of the Kings of Navarre, a castle-palace that was one of the seats of the royal court from the reign of Charles III the Noble until the conquest by Castile in 1512. The Navarra DOP covers the southern half of Navarre, where vineyards run down the lower slopes of the Pyrenees towards the Ebro. Romans built wineries here in the 2nd century BC, and in the 12th century guidebooks recommended the wine of Navarre to pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. Once known mainly for rosado, the region now makes reds and whites too.
