Dynjandi

The largest waterfall in the Westfjords, a hundred metres from top to bottom, spreading as it falls so that it widens towards the base, the shape that gives it its alternative name, Fjallfoss. Five further waterfalls lie below it on the same river: Háifoss, Úðafoss, Göngufoss, Hundafoss and Bæjarfoss, so the walk up from the car park passes each in turn. Dynjandi and the others on the Dynjandisá were protected as natural monuments in 1981. The pass above, Dynjandisheiði, carried the first road built to Ísafjörður that a car could use.
