Cape St Vincent

Cape St Vincent, Cabo de São Vicente, is a headland in the municipality of Vila do Bispo in the Algarve, and the south-westernmost point of Portugal and of mainland Europe. It is a plain description of a dramatic place: sheer cliffs on three sides, a lighthouse on the end, and nothing beyond but Atlantic. For centuries this was the edge of the known world and the last land Portuguese ships saw heading out. The sunsets are the reason most people come, and the wind is the reason most people leave shortly after.
