Porvoo

One of the six medieval towns of Finland, first named as a city in fourteenth-century texts, and still the seat of the Swedish-speaking Diocese of Borgå. The Old Town keeps its eighteenth- and nineteenth-century buildings largely intact around the fifteenth-century cathedral, and together with the river valley below it counts as one of the National Landscapes of Finland. It is a bilingual town (63 per cent Finnish speakers, 27 per cent Swedish) thirty-five kilometres east of the Helsinki city border. In December 2025 Radio Nostalgia listeners voted it the most beautiful Christmas town in the country.
