Kristiansand

Christian IV founded the city that carries his name on the Skagerrak coast, and its grid centre, Kvadraturen, still shows the plan. It is the administrative seat of Agder and the eighth largest urban area in Norway, with 67,920 people, and it fills up every summer: Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park just east of town is the largest zoo in the country and takes over 900,000 visitors a year. Markens Street runs through the middle as the main pedestrian street, Bystranda is a beach inside the city itself, and Hamresanden out by the airport is the longest.
