Gothenburg

Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden after Stockholm and the fifth largest in the Nordic countries, on the Kattegat on the west coast some 400 kilometres from the capital. It is the seat of Västra Götaland County, with around 600,000 people in the city proper and about 1.1 million in the wider area. Laid out by Dutch engineers, it kept the canals and the grid, and it remains a working port, which gives it a plainer, saltier feel than Stockholm and a considerably better seafood market.
