Heidelberg

Heidelberg is the fifth-largest city in Baden-Württemberg, with about 163,000 people of whom roughly a quarter are students. It lies about 78 kilometres south of Frankfurt, part of the densely populated Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region centred on Mannheim, on the Neckar where the river leaves its valley. The ruined castle above the old town is the image everyone knows, and the Philosophenweg on the opposite bank is where that image is taken from, a steep path, but a short one.
