Picos de Europa National Park

The Picos de Europa National Park covers a limestone mountain range in northern Spain, and is unusual in falling across three autonomous communities at once, Asturias, Cantabria and Castile and León, each represented on the body that runs it. It is a long-established destination for hikers and trekkers, and the walking is the reason to come: gorges, high pasture and rock faces within a short drive of the Cantabrian coast. Snow closes the higher routes well into spring, so the season for the passes is shorter than the latitude suggests, and summer is when the range is fully open.
