Sonian Forest

The Sonian Forest (Zoniënwoud, Forêt de Soignes) is 4,421 hectares of woodland on the south-eastern edge of Brussels, connected to the Bois de la Cambre, an urban park that reaches to within four kilometres of the city centre. It spans all three Belgian regions at once, falling in Flemish municipalities including Hoeilaart and Tervuren, Brussels ones including Uccle and Auderghem, and Walloon ones beyond. The old beech stands are the character of it, tall, straight and evenly spaced. It is reachable by tram from the middle of the capital, which is the unusual part.
