Villers Abbey

Villers Abbey stands at Villers-la-Ville in Walloon Brabant, a Cistercian house founded in 1146 and abandoned in 1796. Most of the site has since fallen into ruin. What remains belongs to the Walloon Region and is classified as part of Wallonia’s Major Heritage: roofless church walls, the cloister, the brewery and the mill, set in a wooded valley. Ruins on this scale are rare in Belgium, and the abbey is at its best out of high summer, when the stone is wet and the beeches above the site have turned.
