Waterloo

Waterloo is a municipality of 29,706 people as of 2011 in Walloon Brabant, a short distance south of Brussels and immediately south of the language border between Flanders and Wallonia. It is known for one afternoon: the battle of 18 June 1815, where Napoleon was defeated in the War of the Seventh Coalition. The battlefield lies south of the town and is largely open farmland still, which is what makes it legible, the ridge, the farms and the ground between them can all be read from the Lion’s Mound. Spring and autumn are the clearest seasons for it.
