Brussels

Brussels is a region in its own right, nineteen municipalities including the City of Brussels, the capital of Belgium. It sits in the centre of the country, an enclave within Flanders with Wallonia less than four kilometres to the south, and belongs to both the French and the Flemish Community. It grew from a small rural settlement on the river Senne into one of Europe’s significant city-regions. That layering is the interest of the place: medieval guild houses, nineteenth-century arcades and post-war institutional building within a few streets of each other, and two languages on every sign.
