About Mercado Central
The Mercado Central of Valencia stands across from the Llotja de la Seda and the Church of Santos Juanes in the city centre, and is one of the main works of Valencian Art Nouveau. The present design by Alexandre Soler March and Francesc Guàrdia Vidal was chosen in 1910; building began in 1914 and was finished in 1928. It is one of the largest markets in Europe, covering more than 8,000 square metres under domes and sloping roofs, with iron, wood, ceramics and polychromed tiles inside and coloured windows letting in the light. Most vendors sell food, and restaurants trade inside too.
