About Jumilla
Jumilla is a town in the north of the Region of Murcia, close to Cieza and Yecla, whose economy rests on vineyards, olive trees and fruit trees. Its wine is known above all for the Monastrell grape, and the Jumilla DOP, one of Spain’s leading wine regions, reaches over the border into the province of Albacete. The vineyards sit on wide valleys and plateaus between 400 and 800 metres, in an arid continental climate with around 300 millimetres of rain a year. The region escaped phylloxera in the 19th century, when French merchants came to buy its wine, but was struck in 1989. The grape harvest festival is in August.
