About Trento
Trento is a city on the Adige and the capital of the autonomous province of Trento, known to history for the Council of Trent in the 16th century. It was part of Austria and Austria-Hungary until Italy annexed it in 1919, and its old centre keeps Trento Cathedral and the Castello del Buonconsiglio. As late as World War II the city depended on wine-making and silk. Its sparkling wine is Trento DOC, white and rosé, made from Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Pinot Meunier and Pinot blanc with the second fermentation in the bottle; Giulio Ferrari brought Chardonnay here from France around 1900. Non-vintage wines rest at least 15 months on their lees, riserva 36.
