Crater Lake National Park

The only national park in Oregon and, established in 1902, the fifth-oldest in the United States. It protects the caldera and flanks of Crater Lake – a remnant of Mount Mazama, a destroyed volcano – along with the surrounding hills and forests. At 1,949 feet at its deepest point the lake is the deepest in the United States, the second-deepest in North America and the tenth-deepest in the world; the familiar claim that it ranks seventh depends on which measurements of subglacial Lake Vostok and Lake O’Higgins/San Martin are counted.
