Portland

The most populous city in Oregon, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers, with 652,503 residents at the 2020 census and a metropolitan area of over 2.54 million – almost half the population of the state. The area was shaped by massive ice-age floods, and was inhabited by the Chinookan peoples before European American settlers arrived in the 1840s. The name was settled by a coin toss, after Portland, Maine. It is the seat of government of Multnomah County, the most populous in the state, and the sixth-most populous city on the West Coast.
