Lavaux

830 hectares of terraced vineyard running about thirty kilometres along the south-facing northern shore of Lake Geneva. The terraces date to the eleventh century, built under the Benedictine and Cistercian monasteries, and the main grape is Chasselas. UNESCO listed the region in July 2007 as Lavaux, Vineyard Terraces. Since 2016 the vineyards have been worked without synthetic pesticides. A marked walking route, the Terrasses de Lavaux, runs through them from Saint-Saphorin to Lutry.
